Overview:

A holiday to South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal is truly an enriching and varied experience. This region is especially popular for return visitors or for those who want a more traditionally African experience. An idyllic climate, traditional Zulu culture, dramatic mountains, a colourful history, world renowned game reserves, unspoilt beaches, the St Lucia wetlands and intimate and welcoming lodge accommodation are just some of the many highlights you can expect.

 

Itinerary:

Days 1 - 3: Drakensberg, Montusi Mountain Lodge (DB&B)
Starting from either Johannesburg or Durban, drive to one of the most dramatic regions of the Drakensberg Mountains. 3 days to hike, horse ride, mountain bike and explore the northern berg from Montusi Mountain Lodge where spectacular views over the Amphitheatre await you.

Days 4 & 5: Battlefields, Fugitive’s Drift Guesthouse (FB)

Head east into Zululand proper and to Fugitives' Drift Guesthouse, situated on a hillside, in a small game reserve, with sweeping views over the battlefield of Isandlwana. Unique battlefield tours will recount the famous battles of the Anglo-Zulu war of 1879.

Days 6 - 8: Zululand, Hluhluwe River Lodge (FB)
Continuing deeper into Zululand you come to Hluhluwe River lodge. The Hluhluwe region abounds with wildlife including the famous, ‘Big Five’ Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Reserve where the white rhino was all but rescued from extinction as well as the St Lucia estuary.

Days 9 & 10: iSimangaliso Wetlands, Kosi Forest Lodge (FB)
Two nights to explore a magical place of lakes, rivers, pristine beaches, bush and coastal forests in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Kosi Forest Lodge offers an inspirational, down to earth nature experience in this magnificent setting.

Day 11: Durban, Quarters Hotel (B&B)
End your holiday exploring the beaches, attractions and night life of Durban from Quarters Hotel, a stylish boutique hotel situated in the trendy suburb of Barea.  

Day 12:  
Drop your rental car off at the airport and board a flight home.
