Hidden Vintage Suggests: 7 Worcester St

Although 7 Worcester Street luxury guesthouse has featured on our website for some time now it has all too often flown under the radar and failed to receive the attention or recognition it truly deserves.

Located in the much loved and historic small town of Grahamstown, about an hour or so east of Port Elizabeth, 7 Worcester is an ideal add on at the end of any Garden Route tour and can easily be combined with a safari in a nearby, malaria free, game reserve.   The guest house is intimate, homely and stylish and also offers good food, immaculate service and friendly hospitality.  However what makes a visit to 7 Worcester St really special are the ‘Spirits of the Past’ historical tours with Alan Weyer a host, historian and raconteur in the mould of the late David Rattray (Fugitive’s Drift Lodge).

Past events in the Eastern Cape have, to a great extent, shaped the South Africa of today and Alan’s stories of frontier wars, pioneering spirits and heroic people bound together by indomitable determination are delivered with spellbinding eloquence and gritty humour.  A visit to 7 Worcester St will unveil the history, as well as the political and social movements that have shaped the new South Africa and help put your visit to our beautiful country into context.  It is an experience I can’t recommend highly enough and one that I sincerely hope many more of you will have the chance to experience in the near future.
