Uthando South Africa

With the "Season for giving" around the corner, this month at Hidden Vintage we have descided to give something back and have joined forces with Uthando South Africa.

Uthando South Africa, which when translated from Xhosa means ‘Love’, is a non-profit organisation based in Cape Town that supports a broad range of local, community based, sustainable and innovative empowerment projects helping some of the most destitute and marginalized communities in South Africa. Many of these projects presently receive little or no significant funding and desperately need this to make a difference.


While the world goes about its daily chores, earning a living and living a life, millions of people around the globe are making amazing human stories in the face of almost insurmountable adversity. Uthando offers you the opportunity to obtain a glimpse into these amazing stories.

Uthando’s interactive tours allow you to experience South Africa like never before.  They are not township tours, they are not a trip down guilt lane, they are not a begging bowl route… they are field excursions to discover, meet, learn, understand, see, experience, feel and most importantly, be inspired!


As far as possible Uthando’s tours aim to present a non-commercialized view of this aspect of South Africa, providing visitors with an authentic introduction to the social problems confronted by so many South African’s at grass roots (make no mistake, these are not township sightseeing tours).  The projects are visited on an ongoing basis and are at no time turned into tourist attractions while the proceeds from these tours go back into the community via the projects being visited and financed.

thando is not about guilt and negativity; it is about compassion, learning, giving and above all else ‘Love’ and at Hidden Vintage we are proud to support this non-profit organization.  For every booking we receive to the value of R8,000 per person or more we will contribute R100.00 / person to the organization and challenge you, our clients, to experience an Uthando tour for yourselves and match or better our contribution.
