Hidden Vintage Tours has developed a unique range of special interest tours that include exclusive visits to private houses, gardens, art collections, wineries and much more.  Striking the perfect balance between education and entertainment, our tours are ideally suited to groups who wish to delve deeper into areas of South Africa’s history and culture.  They offer a unique insight into our country that few visitors are privileged enough to experience.

We suggest you peruse the below sample itineraries for and idea of what we can organise for your particular group.

Why Hidden Vintage?

10 Years of Special Interest Tours

In 2001 we organised our first special interest tour in conjunction with the Irish Georgian Society.  The tour focused on the historic houses of the Cape but also included many of the popular sites and attractions that the Cape has to offer.  The feedback and acclaim we subsequently received made us realise that there was an unfulfilled gap in South Africa for educational based special interest tours.

Exclusive Private Visits

Since 2001 we have expanded our strong database of social contacts allowing us, on occasion, access to important private houses, gardens and art collections often hosted by the owners or local experts.  Our tours also regularly feature privileged after-hours access to museums, visits to artist’s studios or wine tastings and discussions with some of South Africa’s leading wine experts.

Specialist Lectures & Guides

In order to set the historic, political or social scene for a tour we frequently organise lectures by prominent local historians or scholars, and where appropriate the tour visits are complemented by lectures by suitable local specialists.

The local guides escorting our tours are experienced and knowledgeable - both in terms of the tour theme but also in dealing with logistical and practical issues that may arise when leading a group.  They are well travelled and accustomed to interacting with high end travellers.

100% Customised

All our creative itineraries are carefully planned and constructed to suit our client’s specific interests, ensuring a unique and enriching experience for each individual group.

Add-ons

Many of our special interest groups end their tours with an authentic African safari.  This can be included as part of the group itinerary or offered as an optional add-on.  Other popular add-ons include visits to the Victoria Falls, the Garden Route or a beach holiday in Mozambique.

Special Interest Tour Clients

Our special interest tours are ideal for museum groups, university alumni groups, cultural societies, garden societies or simply private groups with a developed interest in gardens, history, culture, the fine arts, wine, architecture or similar.

Group Sizes

Our special interest groups are typically made up of between 15 and 30 participants, allowing personal contact with guide, hosts and lecturers.
