The luxurious Blue Train journey from Pretoria to Cape Town (or vice versa) is a 27-hour passage through some of the most diverse and spectacular scenery the African sub-continent has to offer.

Weaving its distinctive thread of blue across a tapestry of captivating landscapes, the Blue Train winds its way through steep mountain passes, lush valleys of orchards and vineyards, windswept desert plains, open grasslands and undulating tracts of bushveld.  This is one of the world’s preeminent luxurious rail experiences.

Itinerary:

The Blue Train Southbound, Pretoria to Cape Town (FB)
The Blue Train departs from Pretoria station at 8h50 and arrives in Cape Town just before lunch the following day. En route there is a stopover and excursion to Kimberley’s famous 'Big Hole', the largest man-made hole on the planet. In 1869 diamonds were discovered here producing one of history's great rushes for the glitter of mineral wealth. Today Kimberley offers the visitor an intriguing glimpse into an age of exploration and obsession.

The Blue Train Northbound, Cape Town to Pretoria (FB)
On the northbound journey, the Blue Train leaves Cape Town station at 08h50 and arrives at Pretoria shortly before lunch the following day. The train stops at the historic town of Matjiesfontein, a slice of sun-bleached Victoriana in the mystical midst of the Great Karoo where guests can indulge in the ambience of a bygone era and visit the famous Lord Milner Hotel and the old car museum.
